HPC Wales aims to build a vibrant Welsh economy, underpinned by a skilled workforce and a strong academic sector
HPC Wales aims to build a vibrant Welsh economy, underpinned by a skilled workforce and a strong academic sector which will raise Wales’ profile internationally, making it more attractive to world-class researchers and businesses.
The key strategic aims of HPC Wales are:
- to establish and strengthen a pan-Wales HPC infrastructure and capability that meets the needs of key innovation projects identified by the partner universities and their business partners. The programme will facilitate this and increase the quality and quantity of collaborative research and enterprise in Wales;
- to deliver research and innovation outputs that have an economic impact in Wales through building engagement with industry within the priority sectors to build Welsh HPC capabilities;to provide significant improvement in advanced computing skills via outreach support for the private and public sector organisations and to support individuals in developing skills necessary to harness HPC technology across the WAG Priority sectors. This will help establish an integrated world-class skills development programme to provide access to a range of new accredited qualifications across Convergence Wales;
- to be a catalyst that attracts the specialist computation research needed to deliver research and innovation that has impact. This will raise the profile and computational skills levels throughout Wales to ensure competitiveness in increasing technologically-driven markets;
- to promote the benefits of innovation and science in Wales and promote the research, technology and innovation expertise within Wales, the UK and overseas;
- to maximise the economic impact of academia and business through technology transfer and the creation of a stronger science, engineering and technology base;
- to increase collaborative R&D with businesses, and the transformation of business ICT-based processes;
- to provide and facilitate innovative multi-mode and multi-model methods of blended and credited HPC learning in particular for industry and commerce;
- to work with and stimulate ICT industry growth and enhance inward investment opportunities in this field.
